Apparently Lucas is working on a live action Star Wars TV series in which bounty hunters go back in time to stop Anakin from ever becoming Darth Vader and thus making the original trilogy non-canon.

Lets send bounty hunters back in time to kill Lucas in 1984.

It’s just a rumour. And it better stay a fucking rumour.

I’ll nerd out with you guys for a minute, only to say a couple of things. First, this live action show has been “in the works” for many years, but hasn’t ever materialized because Lucasfilm just keeps tinkering with the other six movies, re-releasing them in some form each year so the cash flow keeps coming. If this show actually happens—and a huge emphasis on the if—it’ll still be a few more years before it does.

Second, this has to work like a TV show, where they need something to do every week. This time travel story actually sounds like a solid—if terribly shitty—idea for an episode. But at the same time, no one actually knows if this is going to play out or not. Also, it doesn’t say that any of these time traveling bounty hunters succeed in stopping this.

As much as I think Lucas has gone completely off the rails with STAR WARS, I don’t think he’d be dumb enough to actually erase the story that made him the cultural icon he’s become.

I could also be very, very wrong. And if this show ever does happen and this plot does go through, feel free to track me down and throw it in my face.

At that point, I’ll probably tell you the same thing I say now: STAR WARS, EMPIRE STRIKES BACK and RETURN OF THE JEDI were huge parts of my childhood and I’ll always love them. The prequels were admirable ideas that were poorly executed, save for a few highlights. Everything else, I pretend doesn’t exist.

Just like this hypothetical TV show.
